The General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has been an active member of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) since 1986, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is part of the ICAO Council in the " Category II." It has been re-elected periodically for three years, with the last elections held in August/September 2022. GACA works closely with ICAO member states to develop international regulations and recommendations that enhance safety, efficiency, and security in the aviation sector. Additionally, GACA encourages research and studies to develop the civil aviation industry and ensure that local operations are in line with global standards, by enabling the safe operation of over 100,000 flights daily within the global aviation network.
GACA represents the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a member of the Executive Council of the Arab Civil Aviation Organization (ACAO), currently holding the chairmanship for the 2024-2026 period. The authority works to enhance and develop the Arab civil aviation sector in line with the aspirations of Arab countries to achieve safe and regular air transport. It also aims to improve cooperation and coordination among member states in the civil aviation field by establishing the foundations and necessary plans to ensure safety, security, and growth in the sector, thus contributing to the improvement of air transport efficiency in the region
